Officers reported they were alerted by a individual who noticed a car in Hanau marked with reddish liquid

Approximately fifty vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.

Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.

Officers say they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.

The substance had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.

Law enforcement then discovered numerous other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.

Law enforcement state initial examinations indicate the substance was probably blood from a person.

"There is still no indication as to its origin; officials are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they commented.

City officials stated they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the residents for information.

An important political figure stated the incident left him without words and needed to be addressed rapidly.

"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on online, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a shooter targeting individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
