Energy infrastructure targeted in Ukraine
Ukraine's power facilities have come under escalating strikes in the past few days

Overnight, Russian aerial assaults have led to blackouts in extensive areas of Ukraine's capital, the Ukrainian capital.

Nine people were hurt while residents in eastern districts were plunged into darkness and faced problems to water supplies, per reports from city officials.

At the same time, a seven-year-old child was killed in a separate assault in the Zaporizhzhia region in the country's south-east, according to area administrators.

Russian forces has escalated assaults on power infrastructure over the past few days, while Ukrainian leadership has requested "real steps" from partner nations to increase pressure on Russia.

"What is required is not symbolic gestures but decisive action - from the United States, the EU and the Group of Seven - in providing defensive weapons and enforcing restrictions," mentioned in a online statement.

Officials stated that hundreds of unmanned aircraft and more than 30 missiles attacked Ukraine's energy infrastructure, characterizing such assaults as "strategic and deliberate" and against "essential services" as temperatures become colder.

Energy officials said Moscow was "launching a major assault" and maintenance teams were working to restore power.

A barrage of missiles struck electrical systems and residential structures in the capital.

Five out of the nine people injured in the assaults on the city have been taken to hospital, according to local officials.

Regional authorities said the urban area endured heavy assaults during nighttime hours. A young boy died and several individuals were hurt.

The assaults follow nights of aerial attacks in the area, sections of which remain under the control of Russian forces.

The entire country is in a state of readiness for advanced weapon attacks, which are tougher to identify.

National leaders told the media that Moscow was purposely seeking to demolish the country's energy grid, with strikes already disrupting fuel infrastructure.

Authorities confirmed utility staff and officials were bracing for more assaults.
