French officials have consented to start stopping small boats in the Channel, after months of pressure from the United Kingdom.

This policy shift comes after the British leader wrote to the French leader asking him to back the initiative and stating there currently "lack any effective preventive measure" in the maritime passage.

French maritime police have been authorized to intercept the small boats at sea, but exclusively prior to they've picked up their passengers, according to authoritative confirmation.

French police have infrequently acted to stop the overcrowded boats departing from the shoreline because it is viewed as excessively high a danger to both officers and civilians.

"It is crucial that we deploy these tactics this month... We have no effective deterrent in the Channel waters."

Now, a French maritime police representative states officers will begin taking action at sea, with the aim of protecting human life.

Significantly, the official ruled out the use of entanglement devices to stop boats, which had previously been suggested as a possible method to disable the propellers of the vessels.

The decision to take action at all is a significant step forward, following a short-lived change towards a more aggressive approach this warmer season, which dropped off when the former government official departed from government.

This was demonstrated in July, preceding a meeting between the Prime Minister and President, when French police were observed walking into the sea to damage the sides of a vessel.

Currently French authorities will once more be permitted to stop boats prior to they collect migrant passengers from the coastal areas of France's north coast, although it's uncertain how the vessels will be stopped.

Powerful gusts are presently delaying the commencement of interceptions and the people-smuggling networks will be seeking ways to adapt to evade detection, as they have frequently done in the previous instances.

The Home Office and Downing Street have been approached for comment.
